Reaves School History

O. A. Reaves Elementary is named after Otha A. Reaves. Otha A. Reaves graduated from Conroe High School. He was in the lumber and construction business for over thirty years and then dealt in investments. He served as a director of the Montgomery - Walker Soil Conservation district and was a member of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. For sixteen years, Otha A. Reaves dedicated his talents and time to the Conroe Schools, serving as trustee on the Conroe Independent School District Board of Education.

Construction of the school was finished in 1974 with a cost of $1.3 million and opened as an intermediate school, serving students in grades five and six. The first principal was Don Wells. Mr. Wells graduated from Conroe High School as well as Sam Houston State University. The school operated as an intermediate school for thirty years. Dru Ann Davis was the last principal while Reaves was an intermediate school during the 2003-2004 school year.

During the summer of 2004 the school was renovated with a fresh coat of paint and cheerful color-coded grade level pods, O. A. Reaves School opened its doors in August for the 2004-2005 school year as an elementary school serving pre-k thru fourth grade.
